PLACES OF INTERESTS

There’s just so much to do here. From shopping for local souvenirs and handicrafts, sightseeing and a city tour to more adventurous outings such as mangrove river and firefly cruise, fishing trips, or expedition to the caves and waterfalls, there’s never a dull moment in Cherating.

  1. GUA CHARAH CAVES/PANCING CAVES

    The Gua Charah Caves are about 25km (15 2/3 miles) outside of Kuantan. These caves are also called Pancing Caves because they are located in a town called Pancing. The limestone caves are said to be several million years old. Inside one of the caves is a huge reclining Buddha.

  2. SUNGAI LEMBING MUSEUM

    Uniquely located in what was once a mine officer’s residence, this museum lets you get a glimpse of the daily life of a miner in the world’s longest and deepest mine. It was here that the major tin mining ventures were conducted. Now it’s being brought to life again by way of artifacts, pictures, and interesting mining paraphernalia.

  3. BESERAH FISHING VILLAGE

    This quaint fishing village is a must-visit for arts and craft lovers. You will be amazed by the handicrafts and exquisite batik masterpieces that you will find here. Beserah is also known for its mouth-watering salted fish. What makes Beserah extra special is the way fishermen transport their fresh catch from the fishing boat. Fishing boats are met with buffalo carts on the shore where fishermen unload baskets of fresh fish and other seafood from the boat and transfer them onto the buffalo cart. The buffalo will then pull the cart slowly towards the collection house not far from the shore.

  4. LAKE CHINI

    This lake is about 125 ha in size and lies among 12,000 acres of lush tropical jungle. It is Malaysia’s second largest natural lake. Located about 100 km south of Kuantan, Lake Chini is actually made up of 12 freshwater lakes.

  5. SUNGAI PANDAN WATERFALL

    Sungai Pandan Waterfall is situated 25km from Kuantan. It is a forest park covering an area of about 24 acres. It is a popular and favorite holiday spot. The cascading waterfall mixed with the sounds of nature offer holidaymakers a truly refreshing feeling. Visitors can swim at the base of the waterfall.

  6. NIGHT MARKET IN CHUKAI TOWN

    An experience through the local culture. An open market where the locals gather and market their agricultural and local products. A good place to try out the local delicacies and fruits.

  7. MANGROVE RIVER CRUISE

    The Kuantan River Cruise takes visitors through the picturesque landscape of a 500-year old mangrove forest reserve that spreads along the Kuantan River. The first stop along the way is a fishing village from sea. Then the cruise will stop at swamp area and there are 250-metre wooden walkway constructed to enable visitors to walk under the canopy of the tropical mangrove forest.

  8. TULAI ISLAND AND RENGGIS ISLAND

    Tulai and Renggis Islands are excellent diving spots with a number of wrecks, mostly fishing trawlers purposely sunk to create a unique diving experience. Tulai Island can be found on the northeastern coast of Tioman while Renggis Island is located near the Berjaya jetty on the western side of Pulau Selegu.

  9. PAHANG ROYAL REEF

    Pahang Royal Reef is an artificial reef created purposefully in order for coral reefs to grow. The reef comprises of 50 reef balls that weigh 300 kilograms each. This artificial reef also acts as a breeding ground for other marine life. It is also considered as a popular diving spot.

  10. CHERATING CULTURAL VILLAGE

    A small pandanus mat-weaving center can be found within Cherating Village. Here you can buy mats, hats, bags, baskets, as well as other handicrafts.

  11. TURTLE SANCTUARY

    About 6 km from Cherating is the famous Chendor Beach, where the Turtle Sanctuary is located. From early July to September, visitors can watch green turtles (or occasionally giant leatherback turtles) toil ashore to lay eggs at night.

  12. CHERATING RIVER

    You can rent a boat with a tour guide along Cherating River and bask in the scenic glory of Pahang's flora and fauna. Here, you can watch birds chirping and monkeys swinging on the trees and listen to the sounds of exotic bugs.

  13. DEER FARM

    The Deer Farm is located about 50km from Kuantan town and about 5km from Sungai Lembing town. Deer in this farm are originally from Mauritius and Australia.
